Early Spring Storm Delivers Mix of Snow, Sleet and Rain to Cape Cod

HYANNIS – An early Spring storm caused school delays and cancellations early Monday, as a mix of snow, sleet and rain fell across the area.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, and a winter storm warning for sections of Plymouth and Bristol Counties.

Cape Cod is expected to get around an inch of snow throughout the morning, with possibly higher amounts along the Cape Cod Canal.

Three-to-six inches may fall in areas of Bristol and Plymouth Counties.

A gale warning is in effect until 2 p.m., with winds out of the north at 15 to 20 mph.

Several schools on the Upper Cape and just off-Cape were either closed or delayed Monday because of the winter weather.

By 7 a.m., the National Weather Service was reporting 1 inch in Centerville, South Sagamore and East Falmouth. Just off-Cape, New Bedford had 2 inches.

Any snow that does fall probably won’t last long, as temperatures are expected to bounce back to the low 50’s by Wednesday.

The ferry lines between the Cape and Islands and bus transportation around Cape Cod remained on a normal schedule early Monday.
