Eight Cape Cod Towns Holding Elections Tuesday

YARMOUTH – It’s a busy day at the ballot box on Cape Cod, with eight towns holding elections.

Voters will make decisions on contested races and other issues ranging from school overrides to beach repairs.

In Harwich, Thomas Sherry, Steven Scannell and Ed McManus are vying for one seat on the board of selectmen.

There are no contested races in Orleans, where Kevin Galligan is the only person running for a selectmen’s seat. There are several other uncontested seats.

Orleans voters do have 7 ballot questions, dealing with tax overrides for an Affordable Housing Trust, the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School project and a Nauset Beach master plan, among other issues.

In Dennis, Christopher Flanagan, Walter Hulse, Carl Monroe and Dustin Pineau are running for a seat on the board of selectmen.

Dennis residents will also decide on a tax override for the Cape Tech project.

Mashpee voters have a contested school committee race thanks to a pair of write-in candidates who came forward in recent days.

George Schmidt and Geoffrey Gorman were already on the ballot. Brian Weeden and Samantha Ziehl are mounting write-in efforts.

For selectmen in Mashpee, Thomas O’Hara and John Cotton are running unopposed for their two seats.

Yarmouth voters will decide on a four-way race for selectmen for two available seats.

Incumbents Erik Tolley and Norm Holcomb face challenges from Joe Glynn and Joshua Richards.

In the race for school committee, incumbent Joe Tierney is opposed by Michelle Conover and Joe Glynn.

Yarmouth voters also have to decide on a tax override to fund their portion of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School budget.

Five people are running for two open seats on the Bourne board of selectmen, including Stanley Andrews, Sandra Goldstein, Griffin Girard, Jared MacDonald and James Potter.

In Falmouth, voters have a contested race for selectmen with incumbent Doug Jones challenged by Marc Finneran and Alexander Gessen.

For Falmouth school committee, incumbents John Furnari and Kelly Welch are facing opposition from Natalie Kanellopoulos and James Newman.

There are also contested races for board of library trustees and planning board.

Eastham also have an election today, but there are no contested races on the ballot.
