FALMOUTH – Selectmen in Falmouth have voted to support a plan to construct a new, inclusive playground at the town-owned Emerald House property on Davisville Road.
The town’s Committee on Disabilities is seeking roughly $400,000 in community preservation funds to create a new handicapped accessible playground.
Committee Chairman Kathleen Haynes told the board that the Emerald House Property is really an ideal fit.
“I just feel because of the location and the fact that it’s close to the different roads that intersect, there is plenty of parking is flat, and there’s grass,” she explained, adding, “It also has the Emerald House which could be used for the bathrooms.”
Initial plans calling for the project to be developed on property behind the Falmouth Senior Center were scrapped due to wetland protection concerns.
While still in the early planning stages, officials suggest that the project could eventually include a sports area, DJ booth, and soccer wall.
