Event Aims to Pair Veterans with Adoptable Pets

MSPCA_Chipa_32116YARMOUTH – The MSPCA-Cape Cod is partnering with the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Fund in an effort to bring veterans together with adoptable pets from the organization’s Centerville adoption center.

The “Wags for Tags” program aims to aide veterans who are facing the challenges following military service, by offering the companionship, love and devotion that comes with adopting an animal.

“We know that both our shelter animals and our Cape Cod veterans have been through a lot to say the least, so we think this is just a natural partnership to bring the two together as they heal,” MSPCA-Cape Cod Director Mary Sarah Fairweather said.

The event will take place on May 22, from 2-3 p.m. at the Yarmouth Police Station, and all Cape Cod veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Those in attendance will be able to interact with adoptable dogs and cats, as well as learn about MSPCA’s animal care and humane education programs.

The program is made possible by a $2,500 grant from the Cape Cod Foundation’s TCG Fund, a donor-advised fund that provides financial assistance to Cape-area veterans and active military families.
