BARNSTABLE – Eversource will begin aerial inspections of their power lines this week on Cape Cod.
As part of the effort, helicopter crews will fly at low altitude and will hover over some transmission lines so workers can conduct visual inspections. The chopper will be equipped with high-resolution photo capabilities so officials can inspect any issues they may detect.
“Together with the year-round maintenance and upgrade work required to maintain the high level of reliability our customers have come to expect, helicopter inspections of our transmission lines are a vital and effective part of our commitment to reducing the frequency and duration of power outages,” said Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom. “With 1.4 million customers across Massachusetts depending on us to power their daily lives, we’re always working proactively to keep the electric system operating properly.
Eversource will be conducting the inspections across its Eastern Massachusetts service area. The inspections begin Wednesday on Cape Cod before moving off-Cape to the South Shore and South Coast.
The helicopter will be in the air from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.
Eversource expects the inspections to be done by the end of the year.
