MASSACHUSETTS- In a recent announcement, Eversource Energy, the company that provides the Cape with its power, has stated they will invest $40 million dollars in tree-trimming services for more than 2,800 miles here in Massachusetts, in order to enhance reliability for their customers.
Some of the most extensive work will take place in the Greater New Bedford area along 105 miles of electric lines, 73 miles in Marshfield, 71 miles in Duxbury and 50 miles in Canton.
In addition, work will be completed in Mattapoisett, Carlisle, Hopkinton and Lincoln.
“You’ll see them, they are dead, they are dying, a lot of times our customers are the ones that will point us to a tree they they’ll say, ‘look, this tree is interfering with the electrical system’,” says Pricilla Ress, Eversource Spokeswoman.
With this being said, Eversource would like to remind their customers that homeowners are the ones who are ultimately responsible for tree maintenance located on their own property.
That includes keeping branches away from the lower-voltage service wires connecting their homes and businesses to the main utility lines on the street.
Eversource strongly recommends contacting a professional tree service to perform this work.
“It keeps the system reliable, it keeps the energy flowing,” says Ress.
Eversource transmits and delivers electricity, natural gas and water to 1.7 million customers throughout Massachusetts. This includes approximately 1.4 million electric customers in 140 communities.
