Eversource Powers Up 19 ‘Universal’ Solar Sites

BOSTON – Eversource says it’s preparing to deliver 62 megawatts of carbon-free, renewable energy to Bay State residents and businesses this year.

The company says the renewable energy will be delivered across Massachusetts following the construction of 19 new solar facilities, with one of the largest of these sites currently located in Wareham.

“Right now, Wareham is delivering close to 5 megawatts of green energy through over 12,000 solar panels,” said Eversource Spokesman Reid Lamberty.

“That 5 megawatts of green energy is enough energy to power close to 800 homes and the solar power will prevent almost 2,500 metric tons of carbon emission per year, which is the equivalent of taking more than 500 cars off the road.”

In total, the 19 new facilities across the state will increase the amount of solar power produced by Eversource to 70 megawatts, enough energy to power more than 11,000 homes.

“Our partnerships with the communities we serve is the key to success,” said Eversource Vice President of Business Development Mike Ausere.

“As we collaborate to solve for the future energy needs of New England, the shared benefits of large-scale solar facilities are widely recognized. These include creating local union construction jobs, clean energy for residents, and significant property tax revenues for years to come.”

Eversource says the new facilities will also represent a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, equating it to taking more than 6,000 cars off the road per year.

“We collaborate to solve for the future energy needs of New England, and this is really what it’s all about. The shared benefits of large-scale solar facilities are very much widely recognized,” Lamberty said.
