WEST YARMOUTH – A panel discussion will be held on Cape Cod September 15 to develop regional age-friendly programs ahead of the upcoming senior boom.

“Age-Friendly Yarmouth” is a member of the World Health Organization Age-Friendly Community Network and community team that works to promote inter-generational involvement and active aging.

The group is bringing together experts from towns across the state that have implemented successful age-friendly programming.

“The essence of it is getting the different communities to work together to identify their common challenges and then put some collaborative, collective impact efforts in place,” said Kathi Bailey, the director of senior services for the town of Yarmouth.

The panelists include Andrea Burns, the director of Age-Friendly Boston, John Lutz the director of Age-Friendly Berkshires, the director of Healthy Aging Martha’s Vineyard, Patricia Moore, and Diane Barry Preston, the co-founder of Livable Dedham.

Caitlin Coyle, a research fellow at UMass Boston’s Center for Social Demographic Research on Aging Gerontology Institue, will be the panel facilitator.

Panelists will discuss how they gathered the right people around the table, overcame obstacles, secured support from key stakeholders and launched successful age-friendly initiatives in their communities.

Presentations will be followed by a question and answer session.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Yarmouth Senior Center on Forest Road in West Yarmouth. It is free and open to the public.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
