Expo Links Area Veterans with Service Providers

YARMOUTH – Veterans from across the region were in Yarmouth yesterday for the 2017 Cape Cod Veterans Expo.

The event serves as a showcase for various federal, state, and local resources available for former servicemen and women from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services, Veteran’s Service Organizations, and area non-profits.

“We provide readjustment counseling services to combat veterans and any veteran with military sexual trauma, and their family members,” said Dr. Jocelyn Howard, Director of the Cape Cod Vet Center, “So if you have returning veterans or anywhere coming back from combat from yesterday to World War II they can come on in and we can hook them up with whatever benefits they have, and counseling, and try to meet their needs.”

The free workshop was held at the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and allowed attendees to enroll in VA Healthcare benefits, learn about claim information, burial and hospice material, employment material, and loan info.

Howard said that even if you missed the expo there are still ways for local veterans to get in touch with area service providers.

“I would say come on down to the vet center and we can help you get enrolled in VA services, we can help you get hooked up with the benefits folks if you need them,” she said, “So if you have questions about going to school, if you questions about getting a VA home loan for a new house, whatever your questions are we will do everything we can to help.”
