FALMOUTH – The largest municipal shellfish program in the country is looking for summer help.
Falmouth’s Marine & Environmental Services department is accepting applications from high school and college students for summer internships.
The Shellfish Division of the MES is responsible for the propagation and management of the town’s recreational and commercial shellfisheries.
The program operates at the Falmouth Inner Harbor Propagation Center and at remote growing locations in Green Pond and West Falmouth Harbor.
The work environment is described as fun and fast-paced and the program seeks interns who are hard-working, crave learning new skills and don’t mind getting wet and dirty.
Ideal candidates should be interested in learning about aquaculture operations and natural resource management, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
The first big project will be to monitor and care for the new shellfish seed which arrives in June.
Interns will work with shellfish staff to maintain the shellfish nursery and collect weekly growth and water quality data.
