Falmouth DPW Plans to Tackle Problem Intersections

FALMOUTH -There are a few troublesome intersections in Falmouth and the Department of Public Works is working to improve them.

Falmouth DPW deputy director Peter McConarty said that they are looking at developing an elongated roundabout at the intersection of Boxberry Hill and Sam Turner Road, that would encompass Route 151, Cloverfield Way and Record Road.

The work would be one to two years away but would also include new signage and street lights.

In the meantime, the DPW will develop a conceptual design and will hold public meetings to seek input from residents.

“I think everyone knows that the worst intersection in town, safety-wise, is Boxberry Hill and Sam Turner Road, we did have the fatality up there, so that’s going to be one of our primary concerns,” said McConarty.

They are also developing a list of intersections to look at improving, including the Gifford Street and Jones Road intersection.

“It’s a tight area, there’s trees on all sides of the road, but it’s congested and the traffic signals are very antiquated,” said McConarty.

The DPW plans to install new sidewalk on Maravista Avenue from Route 28 to Menahunt Beach.

They are also installing a new water main on Route 28, from Palmer Avenue to Ox Bow Road.
