FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Foundation has announced $100,000 in grant awards to dozens of non-profit organizations serving the community.
This year’s grants will fuel mentoring and education programs, conservation efforts, arts performances, cultural activities, playground construction, and housing projects, among many other worthwhile endeavors.
“Our town funds are really kind of grassroots movements,” said Dara Gannon, The Foundation’s Director of Programs and Donor Services, “Created by residents of the town, who want to create that permanent charitable endowment that would help nonprofits now and in the future serving the residents of the town.”
Among the 27 recipients are the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Falmouth Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, and the Falmouth Public Schools.
The Falmouth Fund, established in 2009, has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to more than 70 organizations pursuing important projects in education, health and human services, arts and culture, and the environment.
Grant Recipients:
Association to Preserve Cape Cod, $8,000. Supports a partnership with the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club to restore the upper
Childs River and the Farley Cranberry Bog
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & The Islands, $5,000. Supports the expansion of outreach programs to establish
additional long-term mentoring friendships between caring adults and Falmouth children
Falmouth Historical Society, Inc., $5,000. Supports a part-time Collections Manager position to professionally preserve and
inventory museum artifacts of Falmouth’s history
Falmouth Public Schools, $12,000. Supports Calmer Choice programming in the four Falmouth elementary schools and
staff training at Morse Pond middle school
Falmouth Service Center, $12,000. Supports the redesign of the pantry to expand the produce and freezer areas to serve
more residents and to integrate health and wellness activities into food distribution programs
Habitat for Humanity, $2,500. Supports start-up costs for the new Falmouth ReStore whose proceeds will, in turn, support
building affordable homes in Falmouth and on the Cape
Belonging to Each Other, Inc., $4,200. Supports additional hours for a Case Manager to develop tailored plans for Falmouth
clients in need of housing over the winter months
Buzzards Bay Coalition, $2,500. Supports Discover Buzzards Bay: Falmouth, a hands-on program that educates and in-
spires students to be environmental stewards
Cape Arts and Entertainment, $2,000. Supports Cape Conservatory’s inaugural Family Concert (in collaboration with the
Falmouth Chamber Orchestra) to introduce orchestral music to children and their families through an engaging, interactive
concert experience
College Light Opera Company, $1,000. Supports the New Works Initiative that will bring an original one-act work by an
emerging composer-lyricist team to the CLOC stage as part of its 50th season
East Falmouth Elementary School PTO, $7,000. Supports the school courtyard renovation that transforms the courtyard
into a multi-functional learning space for STEM inquiry, reading, art and library activities
Falmouth Band Parents, Inc., $1,730. Funding to purchase a mobile folio cabinet for the Falmouth High School Orchestral
Program
Falmouth Chamber Players Orchestra, $2,000. Supports its Beethoven 9th Concert, performed in celebration of the Orches-
tra’s 10th Anniversary
Falmouth Chorale, $2,000. Supports its Brass Quintet Concert, a unique pairing of choral music and brass instruments
Falmouth STEM Boosters, Inc., $2,000. Supports bus transportation for STEM-related field trips, from herring tagging and
restoration at the Coonamessett River to WHOI’s Ocean Observatories
Falmouth Theater Guild, $2,000. Supports purchase of a theater lighting console to enhance performances and to train
those of all ages in this element of stagecraft
Falmouth Together We Can, Inc., $1,200. Supports the Celebrations After-Prom event, the tradition of keeping students
safe with an evening of non-stop music, food, challenge events, crafts and prizes
Falmouth Volunteers in Public Schools, $2,500. Supports hiring a consultant to create a development plan for funding
short-term projects and ensuring long-term organizational stability
Friends of Fairwinds, $1,000. Funding for software and computers for clients preparing to take their GED test to earn their
high school diplomas, readying them for the workforce
Highfield Hall & Gardens, $2,900. Supports docent training and tour development to expand on the museum’s educational
goals and to provide visitors with engaging, informative and interactive experiences
Housing Assistance Corporation, $5,000. Supports the Falmouth Housing Assistance Program to strengthen its current
work and build on new initiatives including outreach to the homeless and introducing financial literacy classes
Neighborhood Falmouth, $1,000. Supports fundraising and database training which will provide infrastructure to sustain
the organization’s goal to help seniors live independently, safely and comfortably in their own homes
North Falmouth Elementary School PTO, $4,000. Funding for the school playground expansion project that will include ADA
accessible structures that will intrigue and delight school children and the broader community
The 300 Committee Land Trust, $3,000. Support to produce a comprehensive update to the Conservation and Recreation
Map of Falmouth that reflects the addition of 180 additional acres and to improve public access to the more than 2,400
acres of important Falmouth lands that are permanently protected
WE CAN Corporation, $4,500. Funding to expand programs, like legal consults, financial empowerment and PathMakers
mentoring for upper Cape women in transition
Woods Hole Film Festival, $1,500. Supports Film Falmouth, a community film series, and Bringing Science to the Screen,
a unique paring of films with talks by local scientists
YMCA Cape Cod, $2,500. Funding to produce a schematic design package to support the funding phase for Falmouth
