William Fowler Jr., Ph.D. will receive the inaugural Falmouth Historical Society Katherine Lee Bates Historian Award June 8.
FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Historical Society has chosen the recipient of its inaugural Katherine Lee Bates Historian Award.
The award will be presented to William Fowler Jr. during a special event on June 8 at the First Congregational Church.
Fowler is a professorof history, emeritus, at Northeastern University in Boston and former director of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
He authored the book, “American Crisis: George Washington and the Dangerous Two Years After Yorktown, 1781-1783,” and will give a presentation about Washington.
The program is a collaboration with the Masons’ Marine Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Falmouth which is bringing the historic Masonic Bible that was used during George Washington’s inauguration in New York in 1789.
The award is named after Bates, who was a writer, scholar, social activist and educator. She also lived in Falmouth for 12 years.
