Falmouth Holding Emergency Preparedness Conference

ambulanceFALMOUTH – The 4th Annual Family Emergency Preparedness Fire Prevention Fair will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gus Canty Recreation Center, 790 Main Street.

The event focuses primarily on keeping residents safe in the event a natural disaster, like a hurricane or winter storm.

While there will be a host of booths which detail such practices as setting up an emergency kit and becoming familiar with evacuation routes, Assistant Emergency Management Director Kim Strohm said the department hopes educating the public will have a mutual benefit.

“If our residents are educated and prepared, it takes the stresses off of all emergency services,” she said.

Other topics to be covered include how to prepare pets for sheltering, prepare elderly and disabled persons for sheltering and how to become a CERT volunteer.

There will also be components for children, including a “touch a truck” event with an on-site firetruck, SWAT truck, police cruiser and more.

Popcorn, pizza and other snacks will be available at the fair, free of charge.
