FALMOUTH – A Falmouth agency which provides housing opportunities for low-income residents has been awarded nearly a quarter million dollars in federal grant funding.
The Falmouth Housing Authority will receive $246,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency Service Coordinators program.
The funding will allow the Authority to hire Service Coordinators to assist residents with programs designed to increase literacy, achieve educational goals, increase incomes and reduce the need for welfare assistance.
“FHA will also be able to employ resources aimed at helping our elderly or disabled residents to improve their living conditions and age-in-place,” said Bobbi Richards, the executive director of the FHA. “The housing authority has partnered with multiple local resources to provide guidance aimed at increasing economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.”
This was the first time the authority applied to receive funding through the ROSS grant program.
“Affordable housing in our communities to ensure the safety and security of our seniors and neighbors with disabilities, job training programs, and other community support service: this is what we mean when we talk about ways the federal government can and should be helping our citizens,” said Congressman William Keating (D-Bourne). “This grant will do just that.”
