Falmouth man arrested on drunk driving charges after Yarmouth stop

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police are charging and East Falmouth man with drunken driving following his arrest Monday afternoon.

Proactive Anti-Crime (PAC) Unit Officer Christopher VanNess observed Douglas Rose — who Yarmouth Police say is well known to Cape Cod Law Enforcement — operating a vehicle on Route 28.

Through a computer check, Officer VanNess determined that Rose’s license was suspended and had a warrant for his arrest due an arrest by the Mashpee Police Department only two days ago for Drunk Driving and then failing to show up at court for arraignment.

Officer VanNess, with back up assistance from fellow PAC Unit Officer Nicholas Ambrosini attempted to stop the vehicle but the Chevrolet Trailblazer did not stop, and continued travelling on East Main Street into Hyannis and finally stopped.

While approaching the operator, Officer VanNess observed him allegedly attempting to stuff a vodka nip bottle between the seat and center console.

Officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and his words were thick tongued. His eyes were very glossy and bloodshot. Rose became belligerent while being placed in handcuffs and yelled racial threats towards him and threatened to have him fired. Rose continued his verbal threats and name calling and would not comply with any field sobriety testing.

While in the back of the cruiser, Rose slipped his handcuffs from behind his back to the front and was banging the window with the handcuffs in an attempt to smash the cruiser window.

Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Christopher Eccleston arrived and transported Rose to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters. Officers were met with a barrage of vulgarities as he was transported and then again as he arrived at headquarters.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Mid-Cape Collision. Prior to the vehicle being removed, several flavored vodka nip bottles were found on the front passenger seat as well as on the front passenger floorboard.

Rose was held at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and is scheduled for arraignment today in the Barnstable District Court.
