Falmouth Museums on the Green to Host ‘Pirate Night’

Marie Kesten Zahn, of the Whydah Pirate Museum, will be one of the guest speakers during Falmouth Museums on the Green’s first-ever “Pirate Night.”

FALMOUTH – The outlaws of the sea will be a focus of an upcoming event at Falmouth Museums on the Green.

The first-ever “Pirate Night” will be held Friday, September 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Cultural Center.

The evening will include talks by Eric Jay Dolin, the author of “Black Flags, Blue Waters: The Epic History of America’s Most Notorious Pirates,” and Marie Kesten Zahn, an archeologist, conservator and science education coordinator for the Whydah Pirate Museum in West Yarmouth.

Dolin’s latest book is set against a backdrop of the Age of Exploration, which was the “Golden Age” of American piracy. Blackbeard, Captain Kidd and Edward Low were the star seafaring outlaws of the period.

Zahn, who grew up on Cape Cod, will bring the adventure closer to home with her talk “Pirates: Treasures Lost and Found.”

She’ll discuss the world’s only authenticated pirate shipwreck, the Whydah, which sank off the coast of Wellfleet in 1717. The talk will focus on local piracy and the Whydah’s history, along with the archeology and artifacts from the shipwreck.
