Falmouth Museums on the Green to Offer Fall Trolley & Walking Tours

FALMOUTH – The local history of Falmouth can be experienced with fall tours from Falmouth Museums on the Green.

The museum’s two-hour trolley tour departs every Wednesday at 10 a.m. beginning September 11 and ending on October 9.

The route runs through downtown Falmouth, Falmouth Heights and Woods Hole and includes a stop at Highfield Hall & Gardens, where passengers can take a self-guided tour of the historic estate.

Tickets for the trolley excursions, which are held rain or shine, are $30, and $25 for members. Reservations are required and tours usually sell out.

Guided walking tours around Falmouth are held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through October, weather permitting. Each walk ranges from 1.5 to 2 hours and covers almost a mile over mostly flat, paved ground.

Attendees will pass the 1814 Captain William Bodfish House and learn about one of the youngest master mariners of the time, hear the 1796 Paul Revere bell ring in the First Congregrational Church and visit the town burial ground. Guests will also find out what a “live oaker” is and see what the Village Green looked like over a hundred years ago.

Tickets for the walk are $10 and include admission to the Museums’ historic buildings and exhibits.

There is also a shorter “Around the Village Green” historical walking tour every Wednesday at 10 a.m. through October, weather permitting. Tickets are $5 and admission to the Museums’ building and exhibits is an additional charge.

The Museums are located at 55 & 65 Palmer Avenue in Falmouth. For reservations to any tour, visit museumsonthegreen.org or call 508-548-4857 extension 10.
