FALMOUTH – Falmouth Selectmen will be considering the controversial needle exchange program planned for East Falmouth at a public meeting tonight.
The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod has leased space at 178 East Falmouth Highway and services will include screening for sexually transmitted diseases, providing Narcan and collecting used syringes and providing new ones to those who inject drugs.
The facility has the support of the Falmouth Board of Health and is expected to receive state funding for operations but neighbors of the planned exchange are opposed, and the building is across the street from St. Anthony’s Church. Some of the neighbors have requested that the Board reverse its November decision to support the exchange, members of the Board of Health are expected to be at tonight’s meeting along with town council.
It is scheduled for 7:45 tonight in the board’s Town Hall meeting room.
