FALMOUTH – Officials in Falmouth are working to combat water issues which have been causing headaches for residents left dealing with low water pressure or burst pipes.
In a meeting with selectmen last week, Water Superintendent Stephen Rafferty informed the board that a number of small and more serious issues will need to be addressed in order to solve the problem.
He explained that much of the problem comes as a result of consumption rate increases that come during the summer months with an increased population and outdoor sprinkler use putting a substantial draw on the system.
Many of the correction efforts will be focused on the town’s new Long Pond Treatment Plant which has been online for less than a year.
Additionally, the town has put voluntary water restrictions in place asking that residents to limit outdoor watering to odd or even days depending on their address.
A more specific, long-term plan to address water issues will come before Falmouth Town Meeting voters in November which will likely run several million dollars.
