Falmouth Selectmen Approve Three-Hour Parking Limit on Main Street

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Selectmen have approved a three-hour parking limit on Main Street.

The parking limit was approved last month and will be enforced on Main Street from Gifford Street to the Village Green.

The new regulations will start off as a one-year pilot program and hourly parking regulations could be revisited by selectmen at a later date.

“Our existing policy rules and orders limit parking on Main Street downtown to one hour, which is a circumstance that we feel is untenable,” said Town Manager Julian Suso.

The town met with police and members of the Chamber of Commerce ahead of their vote, with business owners advising the town to adopt the three-hour parking limit to accommodate employees and customers.

There is two-hour metered parking in Woods Hole, Falmouth Heights and Robbins Road, which Police Chief Ed Dunne recommended for the town to adopt for Main Street, so that they could be consistent.

But selectmen agreed that the three-hour limit would allow more time for visitors to check out businesses on Main Street.

“What we’ve talked about is a one year pilot, that only applies to Main Street area downtown, not to off-street parking lots,” said Suso.

Parking tickets will range from $10 to $20 per infraction and parking limit will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
