Falmouth Selectmen Remove Gus Canty from Senior Center Site List

Falmouth Town Hall 1FALMOUTH – Falmouth’s new senior center will either be at Falmouth High School or at the School Administration Building after the Gus Canty Community Center was removed from a list of possible sites.

Falmouth Selectmen in July weighed whether to study two site designs at the high school or expand the next phase of the study to include the administration building.

The senior community has expressed their interest in the high school location.

“This has been terrifically worked up from the initial surveys that the senior center put out, up to a conceptual study in terms of what do they see in terms of needs, what should a new senior center be,” said Selectman Susan Moran.

Space limitations and gridlock on Main Street were some of the issues that Selectmen had with the Gus Canty location.

Moran noted that traffic congestion and road safety concerns were problems with having the center at the school administration building.

“We have to listen to the vehement repeated concerns of the community about the administration building,” said Moran.
