FALMOUTH – Selectmen passed a motion Monday night on the consolidated permits for Little Pond sewage hook-ups, lowering their cost by about half.
Permit fees are now slated to cost $50 dollars rather than the previous estimate of around $100. This cost includes a sewer service permit, trench permit, plumbing permit, Title IV Septic Abandonment permit, and electrical permit.
The decision took place at a public hearing on the $37.2 million installation project which will put sewers in the Falmouth Heights and Maravista areas of the town.
Falmouth Selectmen Vice Chair Susan Moran suggested the price reduction early in the hearing. She said that fees in the project including additional administrative costs are figured into the total number.
Members of the public commented that they were concerned with the unknown costs that are yet to be determined on-site.
Resident Adrian Dufresne said even though the project is expected to raise the overall value of homes in the area, that factor won’t mean much to elderly homeowners.
“I would hope there would be some sort of committee set up by selectmen where people can get some kind of answers in an orderly fashion,” Dufresne said.
Falmouth Wastewater Superintendent Gerald Potamis said the types of supplies used, such as specific pressure pumps, will vary costs greatly.
Hooking up homes to the sewer system will remain a separate cost for homeowners, he said.
The project’s maximum charge of $16,201, or 70 percent of the project’s cost, will be paid for by the owners of 1,424 properties.
