FALMOUTH – Town officials have waved building permit fees for the Falmouth Housing Corporation’s workforce housing project.
Selectmen waived permitting fees following a long fundraising effort for the project, which is expected to build 20 one-bedroom affordable rental units at 591 Gifford Street.
Director of the Falmouth Housing Corporation Linda Clark requested the waiver from selectmen, stating that the project is viable based on the planned fundraising combined value engineering for it.
“I’m here this evening to request that the board approve a waiver for the building permit fee for the Gifford Street project,” Clark said.
“That’s the workforce project with 10 one-bedroom units. We’ve got a little of a gap in the project at this point and a waiver in the building permit fee would be great.”
Construction is expected to start during the summer, with Falmouth Housing Corporation anticipating 10 one-bedroom units to be ready by 2020.
Gifford Street Workforce will be constructed over two phases, with the first 10 units coming at a cost of $2.5 million, which includes $650,000 in funds from the town. When finished, the project will result in 20 affordable units with rent ranging between $808 and $1,150 per month, plus utilities.
