KA_Falmouth_police 1_111215FALMOUTH – Falmouth police will be running extra patrols around the holidays to crack down on drunk driving as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

Drunk driving fatalities increase during the holidays and Falmouth is joining 202 other local departments across the state in the program, which is funded by a federal grant through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division.

In 2014, 133 people in Massachusetts were killed in crashes that involved drivers with a blood alcohol level higher than the legal limit.

There were 733 people killed in crashes across the country in December of 2013 that involved at least one drunk driver with 23 of those deaths occurring on Christmas Day.
