FALMOUTH – An update on Falmouth’s Housing Production Plan will be presented to residents later this month during a public forum.
The plan’s goal is to bring the town closer to the state’s 10 percent affordable housing objective through initiatives to solve pressing local housing needs.
Officials are seeking comment from residents and business owners on affordable housing issues along with presenting the latest updates from the Housing Production Plan.
“There is a substantial gap between the cost of housing, whether for ownership or rental, and what far too many year-round residents can afford,” said Carla Feroni, the housing coordinator in Falmouth.
A consultant working on the plan will also be present to discuss the plan.
“Then consultant will present data that has been collected and assessed concerning housing in Falmouth and the needs of the residents in Falmouth according to their age and income levels,” Feroni said.
The consultant will also present data on the availability of various types of housing units, including apartments, condominiums and single-family homes.
Feroni said affordable housing is particularly an issue for younger workers and seasonal employees who support the town’s important tourism industry.
The forum is Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hermann Foundation Meeting Room at the Falmouth Public Library.
Feroni said officials are very interested in hearing from local employers.
“We feel that it’s very challenging for our employers in the area to have a workforce who can afford to live here while they are working in the town,” Feroni said.
The Housing Production Plan is required by the state in an effort to assist towns to achieve the goal of 10 percent affordable housing.
