FALMOUTH – Falmouth Town Manager Julian Suso will receive a raise following a performance evaluation from the Board of Selectmen.

His current salary of $172,556 will increase one percent after a very positive evaluation, and another two percent for a cost of living adjustment.

The board voted unanimously to approve the performance-based increase. However, the extra two percent was somewhat contested.

Selectman Samuel Patterson said that, while he commends Suso on his performance, he believes adding the automatic cost of living adjustment might be a conflict of interest, since that amount is set by department heads.

“I’d like us to go back and scrutinize that a bit and perhaps get an opinion from the Attorney General’s office,” Patterson said.

Suso said in response that the contract used for this practice is based on a statewide model.

A one-year extension to Suso’s contract passed by a 3-2 vote, with Patterson and board chairman Douglas Jones dissenting.

The extension keeps Suso in the spot through 2020, where he would have only been in through 2019 if the measure had not passed.
