178367672 (1)FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Water Stewards annual meeting will be held next week and oysters will be a major topic of discussion.

The meeting will feature special guest speaker Scott Lindell, who is the Director of the Scientific Aquaculture Program at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole.

Lindell is a fisheries and marine biologist by training and has 15 years of commercial fish farming experience.

Lindell will discuss the safety of eating oysters from Falmouth waters along with the oyster experiment that is being conducted in Little Pond and how oysters can clean up the water.

Lindell refers to oysters as little aquatic engineers and said they are very efficient in filtering water.

The Falmouth Water Stewards is a nonprofit organization formed by residents concerned about the deterioration of the towns bays and estuaries due to nitrogen pollution and has expanded its focus to include other pollutants.

The meeting will be held next Thursday, July 23, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Hermann Room of the Falmouth Public Library.
