FBI and Falmouth Police Investigate School Shooting Threat

KA_Falmouth_mullen hall school_111215FALMOUTH – The FBI and Falmouth police are investigating a school shooting threat made early Saturday, allegedly by a 17-year-old East Falmouth juvenile.

Falmouth police received the tip on the threat which ended with “suicide by cop.”

It included references to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida earlier this month where 49 were killed by a gunman.

“None of the threats were specific to any particular school, nonetheless we’ve notified all of the area schools of the threat, and we’re continuing to investigate this incident along with the assistance of the FBI,” said Falmouth Police Lt. Douglas DeCosta.

According to law enforcement officials, Falmouth officers were able to locate the teen at his home.

In the threat, the unidentified suspect said he had access to multiple firearms and an explosive device, but was only found to be in possession of an Airsoft Replica pistol and several knives.

Elsewhere in his home, police found one shotgun and two rifles that were properly secured.

Officers transported him to Falmouth Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

“He has since been committed to a mental health facility by the Falmouth District Court,” said DeCosta.

It was not immediately clear how the threat was made.

Falmouth Schools Superintendent Nancy Taylor said that they took the appropriate actions.

“We have a school resource officer who works with us through the Falmouth Police Department and our principals were notified,” said Taylor. “There was no particular school, however anytime anything like this ever happens, we take it very seriously. We make sure that the safety and security of our students is our primary focus.”

Taylor said that parents who have additional questions about the investigation are asked to contact Falmouth Police.
