FALMOUTH – Democrat Dylan Fernandes cruised to victory over Independent Tobias Glidden Tuesday in the race for the Barnstable/Dukes/Nantucket state representative seat.

Fernandes won the districts in his hometown of Falmouth by a nearly 6-to-1 margin, but lost by a large margin to Glidden on Nantucket, where Glidden serves on the board of selectmen

Fernandes won the majority of the towns on Martha’s Vineyard to secure the victory.

He takes over for Democrat Tim Madden who decided not to run for re-election.

The district has been dominated by the Islands for many election cycles. It includes all of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and few precincts in Falmouth.
