BARNSTABLE – The process has moved forward as elected officials in Barnstable look to fill a vacant spot on the town’s school committee.

Members of the School Committee and Town Council interviewed 11 candidates this week and have selected three finalists for interviews before the full boards at a joint meeting in February.

Susanne Conley, Barbara Dunn, and Edith LaBran were chosen as the finalists. The seat will be filled on February 1.

The four-year term is open after Margeaux Weber resigned from her seat on the committee just hours after taking office for a third term in December. Weber was unopposed in her re-election bid in November.

Weber spent 8 years on the board and served as its chairwoman for 6 of those years.

She mounted an unsuccessful campaign for State Representative in the 2nd Barnstable District in 2016, losing to Cotuit resident Aaron Kanzer in the Democratic primary. Kanzer was defeated by incumbent State Rep. Will Crocker (R-Centerville) in the general election.
