2 Finalists Named For Yarmouth Town Administrator Job

KA_Yarmouth_Town Hall_04_120215YARMOUTH – Two people have been selected as finalists for the Yarmouth Town Administrator position, including the current administrator in Harwich.

Interviews are scheduled for next month with Christopher Clark and Daniel Knapik, who is the green communities director with the state Department of Energy Resources.

There were three finalists for the position out of the 32 who applied, but one of the finalists dropped out.

“We’re more than a little disappointed that we only have two instead of three applicants to come to you because we all agreed on the third choice and had hoped that he would be here as well for your consideration,” said DeWitt Davenport, chairman of the Town Administrator Selection Committee.

Selectmen wanted to make sure that the finalists didn’t have applications to other jobs.

“I don’t believe we asked any of them if they had other applications pending at this time, and to my knowledge, that never came up for either one of them,” said Davenport.

Interim Town Administrator Peter Johnson-Staub is leaving Yarmouth to become the new assistant town manager in Falmouth on November 4.

Former Yarmouth Town Administrator Robert Lawton will take over the position on an interim basis until permanent administrator is chosen.

Johnson-Staub was previously a finalist for the position when selectmen were considering William Hinchey’s replacement last year, but withdrew his name after selectmen couldn’t agree on offering him the position.

Selectmen Michael Stone and James Quirk refused to voted for Johnson-Staub, ignoring the overwhelming will of the town meeting earlier this year which took a non-binding vote in favor of giving him the job.

The Yarmouth town charter requires a 4/5’s majority of selectmen to hire a new administrator.
