FALMOUTH – Summer will officially kick off on the Cape with the 7th Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day Monday.

Doug the Quahog will make an appearance to prognosticate how many days of beach weather there will be this season as he whispers it into the ear of his sidekick Johnny Quahog, the Secretary General of Quahog Republic.

Channel 7 reporter Nicole Oliverio will will be the special guest emcee.

“This is bringing a story about how many days we can all spend relaxing at the beach and calling out sick from work and just hanging out and relaxing,” Oliverio said.

Oliverio said she is getting ready for her duties.

“I need to be prepared so if he gives bad news I don’t want to initially make it seem like it’s bad and disappoint the crowd,” the Channel 7 reporter said. “I just have to be ready for anything that he says.”

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross said businesses are hoping for a lot of beach days after the harsh winter which blanketed the region with snow.

“The three months of summer after school gets out, that’s the cream,” she said. “That’s really where a lot of people make their money that they live on all year long.”

Quahog Day gets underway at 3 p.m. Monday at the Flying Bridge Restaurant in Falmouth.
