First Ever Latham Open to Take Place Next Month

HARWHICH – An inaugural tennis tournament to benefit the Latham Centers’ residential school will be held next month.

The tournament, dubbed the “Latham Open”, is sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association and was conceived of by Rufus McCleery, whose younger brother is a student at Latham.

Oliver Prantis, a friend of McCleery is also helping organize the event, “Oliver and I are proud to help Latham and I look forward to this tournament becoming an annual tradition,” McCleery Said.

“Latham is a great school and they have really helped my little brother.”

McCleery also noted he is grateful to the Harwich and Brewster Recreation Departments for donating the court time for the event.

The singles tournament is open to girls and boys in the 14 and under and 16 and under age groups who are members of the USTA.

The tournament will be held on Saturday, July 13th at two locations, Brooks Park in Harwich and Stony Brook Elementary School in Brewster.
