CHATHAM – First Night Chatham will host its 27th year with a town-wide celebration of the arts.
The family-friendly event will feature over 70 performances and events.
John Read, who handles public relations, said he is excited about how the daytime portion will start and finish.
“It starts with a photo shoot down by the lighthouse, then we have a noise parade where we march down Main Street and the kids are allowed to make as much noise as they like. We have our first fireworks at six,” said Read.
There will be another fireworks display at midnight at Oyster Pond.
First Night’s Chairman, Ron Clarke, said many of the festivities will follow a tradition. “For those of us who were around in the sixties, we said it was time to honor them. First Night has done the forties and the fifties in the past, so this year we’re doing the sixties,” said Clarke.
They are always looking for volunteers, and those who plan to attend are asked to purchase a button which are available at local merchants and online.
People from all over are welcome. Chatham First Night runs from noon until midnight.
