First Person to Circumnavigate Cape Cod in Kayak to Speak in Hyannis

Maritime MuseumHYANNIS – After constructing his homemade wooden kayak, Maxey Moxie, Nicholas Matthew became the first recorded person to circumnavigate Cape Cod in a paddle craft this summer.

He’ll relate his many stories of battling high waves, improvising camp sites and encountering the kindness of strangers at an event at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum on Thursday, September 29 at 5 p.m.

His craft was handmade in the basement of his landlord’s Boston apartment and named after his deceased Aunt’s family name, Maxey.

Matthew will share photographs to accompany his many stories during the event.

Entrance for non-members will cost $5; members will gain admission free of charge.

The museum is located at 135 South Street.
