CHATHAM – Massachusetts will receive $8.2 million in fishery disaster funding from the federal government, and local small vessel fisherman are hoping to receive some of that funding.
Groundfish vessels that caught less than 5,000 pounds in a single year between 2010 and 2012 do not qualify for direct federal assistance.
Tom Dempsey, the policy director for the Cape Cod’s Fisherman’s Alliance, said local fisherman are hoping they’re not shut out of funding from the state.
There is no word yet on how the state will allocate those $8 million dollars.
