WEST BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Town Councilor John Flores has been named as a new trustee for Cape Cod Community College.

Flores, a Cummaquid resident,  has spent much of his life working in education and currently serves as the Executive Director and CEO of the Boston-based United States Distance Learning Association. Flores has split his career between higher education and K-12.

The appointment was made by Gov. Charlie Baker.

“I am honored and excited to be appointed to the Cape Cod Community College Board of Trustees by Governor Baker,” Flores said. “My primary goal will be to ensure academic excellence and fiscal responsibility coupled with a commitment to transparency with everyone associated with the college. In particular, offering the best courses and opportunities to all learners no matter one’s age will be a priority for me. I look forward to working collaboratively with everyone at the college.”

“I’m very pleased to welcome John, and recognize his depth of experience in key aspects of higher education that are so important to our students. I applaud his commitment to excellence in all that we offer here at the College,” said Cape Cod Community College President Cox.

Flores, a Republican, has announced plans to run against incumbent Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) this November.

He will join the Board of Trustees this month.
