BOSTON (AP) — A lawsuit has been filed challenging a proposed November ballot question that would legalize recreational marijuana use in Massachusetts.
The Bellotti Law Group says it filed the suit this week with the state’s highest court on behalf of 59 voters who argue that residents are being misled by the petition.
The plaintiffs say the ballot question would allow the sale of genetically modified forms of marijuana with THC concentrations of 60 percent or higher.
The suit also claims voters have not been told that high concentrations of THC could be added to products such as cookies, candy and soda.
The group behind the marijuana legalization effort dismissed the suit as a last-ditch effort by opponents to block the ballot question.
The Supreme Judicial Court has scheduled arguments for June 8.
