WEST DENNIS – Former state representative candidate Elisa Zawadzkas has resolved a campaign finance issue with the state.

The state Office of Campaign and Political Finance found that Zawadzkas did not properly disclose a variety of contributions, expenditures, receipts and liabilities during her unsuccessful run for the 1st Barnstable state representative seat in 2014. The seat was open following the retirement of longtime representative Cleon Turner. Brewster Republican Tim Whelan defeated Zawadzkas, a Dennis Democrat.

Following a complaint against the campaign, state officials found that the Zawadzkas campaign did not disclose over $9,000 in contributions, nearly $14,000 in expenditures made, and just shy of $8,000 in liabilities incurred.

As part of the agreement with the state, Zawadzkas will treat a $2,500 loan from herself as a donation to her campaign, and will provide the state with financial documents through next year. Those documents include copies of bank statements, contributor information, bills and invoices, and expenditure checks.

In a letter to Zawadzkas on May 22, Campaign and Political Finance Director Michael Sullivan said additional action is not needed at this time because her campaign had taken the appropriate remedial steps.
