Former Celtics Point Guard Barros Teaches Fundamentals at Hyannis Clinic

HYANNIS – Former Celtics point guard Dana Barros was in Hyannis over the weekend teaching local kids the fundamentals of basketball.

The 14-year NBA veteran worked with over 70 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 14 on a series of drills aimed at improving defensive, passing, dribbling, and shooting skills.

“We’re trying to teach the kids how to play the right way, learn fundamentally from the beginning how to play the right way,” said Barros, who has spent more than a decade of his post-playing career working with the Celtics on similar clinics across the region.

“I enjoy teaching the youth how to play,” added Barros, who played for the Supersonics, 76ers, Celtics, and Pistons from 1989 to 2003.

The 5’9 Barros talked to the participants about how he overcame his height limitations to become a successful NBA player. He encouraged the players to always outwork their competition.

A number of Celtics team staffers were on hand, including assistant coach Scott Morrison.

Saturday’s clinic took place at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center and marked the first time it had been held on Cape Cod.
