Former Jail Guard Sentenced to Prison for Committing Two Robberies

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A former Massachusetts jail guard who robbed a drugstore and a convenience store has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Bristol district attorney’s office says 47-year-old Joseph Farias, of Westport, was also sentenced this week to three years of probation.

Prosecutors say Farias robbed a 7-11 store in Fall River with a knife in September 2017. Police say a month later, he robbed a Rite-Aid in Fall River after telling a clerk he had a gun. Prosecutors say Farias got away with more than $400 between the two robberies.

Police say they identified Farias after his ex-wife and parole supervisor recognized his neck tattoo.
