Former Selectman Taylor Chosen as Asst. Town Manager in Mashpee

Wayne Taylor, a former selectman in Mashpee, was named the town’s new assistant town manager this week.

MASHPEE – A familiar face in Mashpee town government has been chosen as the new assistant town manager.

Former selectman Wayne Taylor, who served on the board for 17 years, was approved by the current board this week after being chosen by Town Manager Rodney Collins.

Taylor took a year off from town government after choosing not to run for another term on the board last year.

“I found that missed serving the citizens of Mashpee and I’m looking forward to this new opportunity and slightly different role,” Taylor said.

Taylor believes his experience serving on the board will help him at his new role within the town.

“I know what they are looking for for information. I know what they need for information,” he said. “And I think I can bring that perspective to the management office.”

Taylor anticipates tackling the same issues in Mashpee that most towns on the Cape are struggling with.

“We’re looking at affordable housing and wastewater management,” he said. “We also have, unfortunately, the opiate addiction [issue].”

Taylor said the town manager will ultimately make the office’s final decisions and sees his role as a fact finder.

“I think there is a lot that I can offer – background of different things that have happened throughout the years in town,” he said. “That institutional knowledge that I think most people wouldn’t be able to bring to this job.”

Taylor will start later this month. He replaces Thomas Mayo, who left for a position in Hingham.
