FALMOUTH – Democrats nominated a familiar face in the 3rd Barnstable District Thursday, with former State Rep. Matt Patrick picking up a resounding victory over Bourne Selectman Michael Blanton.

Patrick, a Falmouth resident, received 2,287 voters. Blanton got 962.

“We took it seriously,” Patrick said. “We started almost a year ago. I put a lot of shoe leather into it, went to a lot of doors, and it paid off.”

Patrick represented the district before he was defeated by incumbent Republican David Vieira in 2010. Patrick and Vieira will face each other in the general election in November.

“It’s never easy to run against an incumbent, it’s going to be a very difficult race, but there’s huge differences between us,” Patrick said. “I look forward to engaging [Vieira] in debate and pointing out to people what our differences are.

The 3rd Barnstable District includes Bourne, Falmouth, and Mashpee.
