Yarmouth Port Forum to Focus on Protecting Coyotes

YARMOUTH PORT – An event to inform the community about protecting coyotes in Barnstable will be held later this month at the International Fund for Animal Welfare in Yarmouth Port.

Two short films about coyotes will be screened with each being followed by question and answer period with experts and local officials.

The first film, “American Coyote – Still Wild at Heart,” follows the story of coyotes all across the country. The film details the adaptability and intelligence of the mammals and the challenges and opportunities they provide to urban and rural communities through interviews with researchers, ecologists and other experts.

The second film, “Killing Games: Wildlife in the Crosshairs,” addresses an issue felt right here on Cape Cod with the coyote contest held in Hyannis last fall which killed about 50 of the animals.

The Q&A sessions will feature Camilla Fox, founder and executive director of Project Coyote, a non-profit based in northern California; Cape Cod biologist and author Dr. Jonathan Way; and Britt Beedenbender, a Barnstable Town Councilor.

The forum is April 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10. To purchase tickets, visit coyotefilm.eventbrite.com.
