Brewster Forum to Focus on Threats to Cape Cod Water Supplies

BREWSTER – A community forum focusing on the safety of the Cape’s public and private water supplies will be held Thursday evening in Brewster.

Local water quality professionals will discuss potential threats to water quality from emerging contaminants, including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, flame retardants and plastic additives.

The featured speaker will be Dr. Laurel Schaider, a research scientist from Silent Spring Institute. She leads the institute’s research program on Cape Cod, including an ongoing study of potential human exposures and health effects associated with highly fluorinated compounds, PFAS/PFOS, mostly from firefighting foams that impacted wells in Barnstable.

The event sponsored by the Sierra Club Cape Cod and Brewster Community Network is at the Brewster Ladies’ Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The forum is free and open to the public.
