Four Contested Races, Three Ballot Questions To Be Decided In Sandwich Town Election

SANDWICH – Sandwich residents head to the polls today to decide four contested races and the fate of three ballot questions.

Voters will consider a debt exclusion to fund a new joint public safety facility. Residents at Town Meeting on Monday gave approval to a scaled back $17 million plan to build a new police station, fire substation and renovate the East Sandwich station.

The facility would be located at the corner of Cotuit Road and Quaker Meeting House Road.

Residents will also be asked for an additional $750,000 to hire eight extra firefighters. The proposed garnered Town Meeting approval earlier in the week.

The third ballot question pertains to an extra $1.3 million in funding for a road bond.

Two seats are available on the Board of Selectmen. David Sampson is challenging incumbents Ralph Vitacco and Susan James.

Former Selectman James Pierce and incumbents Nancy Crossman and Kerri Ames are running for two seats on the School Committee.

Town Clerk Taylor White is facing a challenge from Harold “Woody” Mitchell.

Pamela Dana-Snyder and Timothy Grady are running for a seat on the Board of Health.
