BARNSTABLE – Four finalists for the position of Barnstable Town Manager have been named.

Barnstable Town Councilor John Flores, who also serves as Chairman of the Town Manager Screening Committee, revealed the names at Thursday night’s town council meeting.

Mark Ells, current Barnstable Assistant Town Manager, Nicole Ard, Former City Manager in Sandusky, Ohio, Troy Clarkson, Current Town Manager in Hanover, and Timothy King, current Town Manager in Westport, were named as the finalists for the position. Clarkson is a former Falmouth selectman.

“I want to commend all of the four candidates who are being recommended to the full council, they’re all very strong and they all can do the job,” said Flores.

Town council will conduct final interviews with the candidates on May 7 at 10 a.m. and are expected to make a final decision later that day.

The council will then appoint their candidate to the position by May 19.

Current Town Manager Tom Lynch’s contract expires on June 30.

The search process started with 15 candidates that were qualified for the position, but the Collins Center, through their own review, eliminated five of them.

Ten of the candidates were forwarded to the town for consideration and seven were invited after a review by the screening committee.

Two candidates withdrew their consideration for the position after being eligible for opportunities elsewhere in the country, leaving four finalists for the position.

The final interviews that town council will conduct with the candidates will be open to the public.

“I was honored to work with my fellow councilors who really did do a tremendous job in terms of searching for what we consider to be the best candidates that were presented to us,” said Flores.
