MARTHA’S VINEYARD – It will be a busy night on Martha’s Vineyard, with four towns beginning their annual town meetings.
Education spending is at the forefront in West Tisbury, the town finance committee is opposed to a $9.8 million school budget. The proposed town budget checks in at $17.5 million.
Tisbury voters will consider allowing restaurants to sell hard liquor and will also weigh spending $825,000 for a study into the feasibility of a new Tisbury School building. The proposed operating budget for Tisbury is $22.5 million.
Edgartown voters are looking at $33.5 million dollar operating budget. Warrant articles include $500,000 for renovations at Memorial Wharf and expanding the town’s historic district.
Oak Bluffs residents are faced with a $28.4 million town budget, a 4.5 percent increase. Voters will consider replacing three police cruisers and replacing lanterns on Sea View Avenue.
Voters in all four towns will consider a ban of single-use plastic bags.
All four meetings begin at 7 pm.
