BARNSTABLE – Peter Frates and his family will embark on a new book project with Barnstable native and author Casey Sherman.

The new memoir will chronicle Frates’ four year battle against ALS and the fundraising effort to raise awareness of and find a cure for the deadly disease.

Around $220 million has been raised by the Ice Bucket Challenge for the ALS Association and its peer organizations around the globe.

“I hope this book will serve as an inspiration to others and show them what can be accomplished through determination and through the love and support of family and friends,” said Peter Frates. “My family looks forward to working closely with Casey and Dave, authors who have a proven track record of success and who will bring both sensitivity and passion to the project.”

Sherman is the co-author of Boston Strong: A City’s Triumph over Tragedy, which is now being used as a basis for the new film Patriots Day.

Sherman is also the co-author of The Finest Hours, which is now a major motion picture.

Both Sherman and co-author Dave Wedge will conduct interviews with the Frates family and supporters as well as medical professionals on the advances made in ALS research.

The project will be put out to publishers for auction this spring for scheduled release in 2017.
